Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga | Tantive IV

On LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga we in the models team took on our most ambitious project yet and that was to fully create interiors of the spaceships out of LEGO. The following interior was for the Tantive IV featured in one of the levels for Episode IV. Also one of the first interiors we created.

These had to be designed to be built correctly within LEGO's own standards as well as being optimal for modern game platforms.

I was responsible for creating the final meshes after the LEGO designs were done, I also created all of our shaders, materials and workflows from scratch for these environments as well as creating the sticker artwork featured in the levels.

Everything was modelled in Maya, textured in Substance Painter and the sticker artwork was created in Illustrator.

LEGO Design/Direction by Thomas Coleman and Carl Greatrix. Lighting by Leon Warren.

This was the first project I worked on where we really focused on the realistic look of LEGO from the different roughness properties of different size tiles to moulding marks and moulded trademark logos.

I created sticker decorations with extensive research from the movies and Lucasfilm archives to insure accuracy to the Star Wars universe and adhering to the LEGO brands unique look and style for their sticker decorations.

One of the toughest challenges was creating damaged areas behind the initial walls which could hold up to a level of detail with our new camera but also perform well.

Attention to detail was also paid into emissive textures in the ceiling to show the 'tubes' on the underside of LEGO plates that wouldn't emit as much light as the 'thinner' areas of plastic.

We also had to make sure we included areas to include classic cameos like the hot tub Stormtroopers.

One of the other easter eggs I hid around the level was a recreation of the LEGO Star Wars II cover in LEGO sticker form.
